What a PMA is
A Parts Manufacturer Approval is the FAA’s design and production approval for a replacement or modification part on a type-certificated aircraft, issued under 14 CFR 21.303. A PMA part is not the OEM part; it is an alternative the FAA has found acceptable, on a stated approval basis — identicality, a licensing agreement, or test and computation.
